Healing Art: Jin Shin Jyutsu

Jin Shin Jyutsu physio-philosophy is an art of harmonizing the life force energy in the body.

Why should I get a JSJ treatment?

What symptoms does Jin Shin Jyutsu help?

It helps with stress, which is believed to be a contributing factor in the vast majority of illnesses and psychological states in our demanding lives.

What are Safety Energy Locks?

Jin Shin Jyutsu utilizes specific areas of the body where we place our hands to harmonize the body’s life force energy. These specific areas are called Safety Energy Locks (SEL) as seen in this diagram. These SEL’s are represented with numbered locations throughout the body where the practitioner, or oneself, places their hands to help harmonize the body for ease, health, and well-being. The treatment will be a series of constellation-like hand applications to unblock areas of energetic congestion in the body with the intention of harmonizing the life force energy within for optimal healing to take place.

What can I expect during a Jin Shin Jyutsu treatment session?

You’ll relax on a massage table, clothed and laying face up, during your Jin Shin Jyutsu treatment. I will place my hands on two different Safety Energy Locks (SEL’s) at a time to alleviate any blockages in a set sequence (flow) with the intention of harmonizing your life force energy so that your body can heal optimally. 

There is no massage or manipulation of muscles involved. Treatments are non-invasive, using only the hands. Your first visit will be approximately one-hour and thirty minutes in length, and and subsequent sessions will be fifty minutes to an hour long. Treatments for children and the elderly are less than an hour in length, and may vary according to the need.

Essential oils for aromatherapy are available upon request.

What might I experience while on the massage table?

The response to a treatment is unique to each individual. Patients have said that they experience an increased sense of well-being, deep relaxation and renewed energy, as well as relief from the symptoms of stress related disorders. Many patients or clients fall asleep during a treatment. Sometimes you feel immediate relief, sometimes you feel it the next day.  Often you will realize that the symptom is gone only much afterwards.  The more chronic the condition the longer it may take to improve. Harmonizing the life force energy of the body can be like ‘peeling an onion’, one layer at a time.

Jin Shin Jyutsu for Children

I have a particular interest in helping and supporting wellness with young children and teenagers. I have had the experience of offering pain and anxiety relief using Jin Shin Jyutsu and breathwork on the pediatric floor at Overlook Medical Center, as well as having young private clients come for treatment sessions. My passion for helping young people comes from my forty plus years of teaching, and my enjoyment in working with children of all ages.

It is suggested you wear loose, comfortable clothing. You will remove your shoes, watches, belts and jewelry.

It is recommended that you receive a treatment on an empty stomach. If you eat before a treatment, it is recommended that you eat a light meal or snack, such as fresh fruit or energy bar.

YES! Jin Shin Jyutsu is an adjunct – not a replacement – for medical science. It is complementary and co-operates with medical protocols and medications. JSJ is not a substitute for medical care. However, it is recommended that you check with your doctor every two months to evaluate the pharmaceutical dosage of any medications you are taking. It is possible that with JSJ treatments, your need for medical pharmaceutical support may decrease over time.

Jin Shin Jyutsu is excellent for preparing the body for your pregnancy, and to maintain health during your pregnancy. As the Art works with subtle energies of your body, it can ease pregnancy discomforts, as well as support the development of your unborn child. I have had the good fortune to have worked in Labor and Delivery at the Overlook Medical Center, and was able to assist many women who would otherwise have struggled during the birthing process. 

Skilled practitioners and Holistic Nurses trained in this non-invasive healing Art provide treatments in hospitals and in Integrative Medical Centers in collaboration with medical doctors, surgeons, hospice, psychiatrists and other health providers. Also, many practitioners throughout the world provide JSJ in their own private practice.

YES! A major component of JSJ is Self-Care, which is how you can take care of your own health by applying your own hands to specific “points” on your body to relieve pain or stress and to bring the body into balance. As your practitioner, I would provide simple JSJ Self-Care instruction at the end of each JSJ session for you to apply on your own body at home. Consider it homework.

YES! Jin Shin Jyutsu is an excellent tool to maintain your health and prevent the onset of dis-ease. Be proactive!

Special note: People respond to Jin Shin Jyutsu in their own individual way. What works for one person may not work for another in the same way or in the same degree.

Jin Shin Jyutsu Self-Help

Self-Help is learning from a practitioner how to use hands-on sequences to restore emotional balance, relieve pain and release the cause of both acute and chronic conditions. It can be used safely in conjunction with any other therapy or medications, and is a valuable complement to conventional healing methods. It can be used anywhere and at any time. The cumulative effect of self-help application is what makes the difference in changing one’s health.

At the end of a Jin Shin Jyutsu treatment, I will teach you a bit about JSJ and give you Self-Help homework for you to do for yourself to maintain your health going forward.

I also offer Jin Shin Jyutsu Self-Help Coaching online where we would meet remotely for a 30 minute teaching/learning experience which I record and send to you later as a reference guide.

During a Self-Help Class, I will teach about the Physio-Philosophy of Jin Shin Jyutsu and the Safety Energy Locks (SEL’s) with their locations. The experience would be similar to Restorative Yoga in its calming and healing impact. Handouts would be available. These Self-Help classes are one hour in length.
